Sand Clay
1 cup sand
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 tsp. cream of tartar
3/4 cup hot water
Mix sand, cornstarch and cream of tartar in an old saucepan. Add hot water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is very thick. This will only take a few minutes. When slightly cooled, form clay into castles or structures. Allow several days to dry. After shaping their castles have the children insert toothpicks for flagpoles where they wanted flags to go. Once dry, glue felt flags to the end of the toothpicks.
Indoor Beach Fun
Set up pails, shovels, towels, bathing suits, empty and cleaned bottles of sunscreen, children's sunglasses, and small beach balls for a fun indoor beach adventure.
Beach Ball Games
1. Set up a net and let the children play beach ball volleyball.
2. Have the children stand in a line and pass the ball over/under from one end to the other.
3. Use smaller beach balls and have the children place them between their knees and walk from the start to a finish line.
4. Set a hoop in a tree and have the children toss the beach ball through the hoop.
