Star Wars Party
Star Wars - not exactly my area of expertise! BUT... I had a friend recently ask me for some ideas for a Star Wars
party and when I tried to find some games and party ideas suitable for children on the web, I was out of luck. It was then that
I decided to do my Star Wars theme birthday party. I know a lot of you are faithful fans of Star Wars and it is to you
that I dedicate this party :-)
Decorations
1. Stars cut from tin foil hung from the ceiling and black streamers
2. Make a spaceship from a large cardboard box -add a control panel. Add a few
costume props and the children will make their own Star Wars story.
Games/Activities
1. Darth Vader Mission - The villianous Darth Vader has stolen the secret
treasure and hidden it all over the galaxy. It is up to Luke and his band
of heroes to save the day. What you need to do is make balls out of tin
foil and hide either a small piece of candy or something like that in each
one. Then, hide the "treasure" all over. Each child finds a piece of the
treasure and when they do, they report back to the ship commander (you)
that way, no-one is left out finding a treasure and once everyone meets
back at command central, they can open up their package and see what is inside.
2. Missile Launch - darken the room and have a few buckets that glow in the
dark - you can use flourescent tape or those bracelets that you buy at the
dollar store - These can be the enemy ships. Children are provided with
bean bags or sponge balls that they must shoot to destroy the enemy ships
from getting any closer. They do this by tossing the ball or bag into the
buckets or pails.
3. Rescue Princess Leia - Have an adult volunteer to be the Princess. The Princess then
hides somewhere in the house (or yard). Tell the children that Princess Leia has been captured by the dark side.
The heroes must protect their Princess. Provide the first clue on
the hunt for the Princess - such as... Clue #1: Beware Princess for what I
have in store... Clue #2 is on the kitchen _______ (floor). Clue #2
sends them to clue #3 etc until they find the Princess.
4. Droid Game - have one child stand in the center of the circle with a few
objects around him. Let him/her look at where the objects are. Then
blindfold the Droid. The rest of the children will name an object that the
droid must pick up and will assist the Droid by calling out directions...
One step left, right, bend down, etc until they have successfully navigated
the droid to the desired object and it has been picked up.
5. Storm Trooper Bowling - decorate a set of 2L pop bottles or plastic
bowling pins for 5 pin bowling. Use white and black paper to make them
look like a storm trooper and provide a plastic bowling ball.
The children take turns rolling the ball to knock down the storm troopers.
6. Set out a table with Star Wars colouring pages and crayons.
7. Fun with Light - use light sabers, flashlights etc and let the kids
play with them - the younger set will really like this one.
Food
1.Vegetable light sabers - Cut slices of cucumber and stick a carrot stick,
red or green pepper slice through it to make a colourful saber.
2. Cut sandwiches into star shapes.
3. Make alien hot dogs - cut a "t" shape into one end of a hot dog about 1 inch
deep. When they are boiled, the hot dog will spread at that end looking like hair. Add mustard dot eyes and
a ketchup mouth.
4. Serve "space ship" popsicles - Loblaws sells their own brand of popsicle in the shape of
a ship.
5.Cake - Decorate the cake in the shape of a star ship. OR Decorate a square or round cake with icing and sprinkle
it with candy stars. Place star wars figurines on top of the cake. OR Make a "Yoda" cake using a round cake
pan. Ice the cake green, add ears and facial features using candy.

and watch the children's faces when they receive your awesome theme-based loot bags! Here are a few ideas to get you started:
