Crafts

*Dog Collars - cut collars from felt and add paper dog tags. Add velcro so they can be worn. Make sure that they are loose enough to be worn safely or use only on stuffed animals.

*Sock Puppets - Add felt ears, googly eyes, whiskers etc, to make pet sock puppets.

*Rodent Picture - glue or draw a picture of a gerbil or hamster on a piece of paper punch holes at the top and bottom of the picture and lace with string for a cage.

*Bird Cages - cut 2 circle bristle board discs the large one on bottom and the small on the top. Punch holes around the discs and attach together using pipecleaners. Decorate a bird shape cut from a styrofoam tray with feathers and put him in the cage by tying a string to the bird and the top centre of cage. Add a pipecleaner perch that the bird can sit on.

*Paper Plate Fish - paint paper plates. Add fins, tail, and eyes when dry.

*Add plastic pet animals to the area.

*Add stuffed animals and items for their care such as beds, soft brushes, and food bowls.

*Add empty boxes of pet food

*Add pet carriers (the doors remove easily).

*Nice Kitty - person who is "it" goes up to people and purrs. They must then pat the "kitty" and say, "Nice Kitty" without laughing. If they laugh, they become the new kitty.

Water & Sand Play

*Put plastic fish in your water table.

*Add large plastic pets and bubbles with sponges to the water table for bathing pets.

*Add plastic animals to the sand table.

Outdoor Play

*Paint a cardboard box for a doghouse.

*Place blankets (or pet beds) and food bowls on grass. area

Field Trips / Special Days

*Have a Pet day where everyone brings in photo's of their pets.

*Visit a pet store and buy some fish or another pet for the childcare.

*Have someone visit with their pet.
