*NOTE: It is very important to disinfect and wash all materials that children are going to use for this unit. Items may carry germs and bacteria such as salmonella from meat trays. Use hot soapy water and a disinfectant such as bleach to ensure that all materials are clean and safe to use!

Crafts

Junk Treasures... make something useful from garbage - here are a few ideas to get you started:

*plastic bottle piggie banks

*paper maché

*tin can pencil holders

*styrofoam tray marble game (2 trays of identical size, cut marble sized holes in on tray and then place it on top of the other. Place marbles to match the number of holes on the tray and cover with plastic wrap. Try to get a marble in each hole to win the game)

*milk carton bird feeders

*glass bottle vases (podgie on the bottle, add flowers either real or made, makes a great Mother's Day gift too)

*newspaper hats, trees or boats

Plants are an important part of our environment

*make trees using paper tubes

*make recycled paper

*leaf rubbings

*pressed flower pictures

*paper flowers

Many animals are endangered because of pollution and other toxins that we have put in their environment.

*whale puppets

*pinecone animals

*styrofoam birds ( cut bird shape from plate, cut a slit for the wing, bird will really fly)

Science

*composter (set one up, see how one works)

Block Area

*make milk carton blocks by using coloured mac tac on cartons

Dramatic Play

*add blue boxes and items for sorting
