Crafts

*Fire Fighter Hats - cut the center out of a piece of thick paper to fit child's head and forming it to a hat shape. Paint red and when dry, have children add a badge and number to the hat.

*Police Badges

*Library cards for your own library

*Chef Hats - cut a strip about 2 inches thick from white bristle board. Fit to child's head. Attach a piece of white tissue paper to the center and puff it up to look like a real chef's hat.

*Tool Belts - cut pieces of fabric and sew on ties. Sew to create pockets for holding tools.

*Money Rubbings

*Stethoscopes

*Toothbrush Painting

*String paint with dental floss.

*Scissors - cut 2 1/2 shapes from bristle board and attach a brad so they can be "used".

*Mail Bags - cut a bag shape from 2 pieces of blue construction paper. Staple leaving the top open. Add a strap.

*Stamp on envelopes.

*Menu's - cut and paste food pictures and design a menu for a restaurant.

Science

*Doctor's - the body, skeletons, bones, heart, etc.

*Chef/Grocery store - smell or taste game - blindfolded children must identify foods by their smell or taste.
*Dentist - flouride experiment - place 2 eggs in vinegar, coat one in flouride toothpaste and leave the other unprotected. View and discuss the results after a couple of days.

*Fire Fighters - make a home-made fire extinguisher - just click on "Charlie" and he will show you how with simple household items.

Block Area

*Use a large box to design a fire truck, add hats, boots and hoses for putting out the fires.

Dramatic Play

*Set up a vetrinarians office - stuffed animals, carriers, pillows, doctor's kit, leashes, pet food bowls, and empty boxes of pet food.

*Doctor's Office - chairs, waiting room with magazines, phone, reception area, doctor's kit, and mat.

*Hair Salon - empty shampoo bottles, pretend scissors (see crafts), hair clips, water sprayer, chair, bucket for the sink, combs and brushes.

*Restaurant - menues, play food, pad of paper and pencil for taking orders, napkins, table cloth, cash register, bill slips, dishes and utensils, chef hats, and aprons.

*Grocery Store - empty boxes of food, refridgerator (a cardboard box can be easily cut to make one), play food, shopping cart and/or baskets, paper bags, and cash registers.

*Put out traffic signs for the bike path, supply police hats, ticket pads and pencils.

Field Trips / Special Days

*Visit a fire station, vetrinarian's office, dental office, etc.

*Have a community helper come and visit your center.
