Birds

Crafts

*Marionette Puppets - roll 2 rectangles of construction paper into tubes. A larger one for the body and a smaller one for the head. Glue the tubes together, add feathers, beak, googly eyes, legs, feet, and wings. Tie a string to 2 popsicle sticks formed into a lower case t, attach the strings to the bird and move sticks to your marionette walk.

*Ducks in a Pond - sponge paint duck shape onto a pond.

*Sea Gulls - Cut a bird shape from a styrofoam plate. Add a slit to the center and cut a wing out from the plate also. Place the wing through the slit. These birds will soar when thrown gently.

*Binoculars - attach two t.p tubes together side-by-side with glue or a stapler. Punch a hole at one end in the outside of each tube. Place a ribbon or string through the holes long enough that the binoculars will hang around neck easily. Decorate with paint, stickers, markers, etc.

*Owl Puppets - Add a brown (or white if making a snowy owl) circle to a paper bag. Add wings, beak, eyes, etc. You can also glue on brown feathers if you wish.

*Bird Cages - cut 2 circle bristle board discs the large one on bottom and the small on the top. Punch holes around the discs and attach together using pipecleaners. Decorate a bird shape cut from a styrofoam tray with feathers and put him in the cage by tying a string to the bird and the top centre of cage. Add a pipecleaner perch that the bird can sit on.

*Bird Seed Collage - use different types of birdseed to glue a collage onto paper.

*Feather Painting - dip feathers or a feather duster into paint.

Songs

Robin in the Rain

Robin in the Rain,
Such a saucy fellow.
Robin in the Rain,
Mind your socks of yellow.
Running in the garden on your nimble feet,
Digging for your dinner with your long strong beak.
Robin in the rain,
You don't mind the weather
Showers always make you gay.
Bet the worms are wishing you would stay at home
Robin on a rainy day - don't get your feet wet,
Robin on a rainy day!

My Pigeon House

My pigeon house I open wide
And I set all my pigeons free
They fly away o'er every stoop
And they perch in the highest tree
And when they return from their merry, merry flight
They fold their wings and they say, "Goodnight"
Coo, coo. coo, coo, coo, coo, coo, coo
Coo, coo, coo, coo, coo, coo.
